My good friend, Erin Taylor, of Ambitious Solutions, consults and coaches on how to lead successful projects. In this short and sweet article she captures one of the toughest aspects of stakeholder management- how to hold different and often new personalities accountable.
Ask up front, in a group, how each person wants to be held accountable for work. This approach gives every individual ownership over how they are managed which creates a happy environment. Find out if they prefer a 1x per day check-in, a halfway check point, or if they will finish the work without follow-up on or before the due date. Take notes on each person’s preferences and hold them accountable to it. You may find team members adjusting their accountability requests after a few weeks one way or the other.
